Review and understand the ancient practice of reflexology with a focus on treatment of the foot to positively affect the rest of the body. Incorporate our modern understanding of anatomy and physiology with acupressure points and energy meridians to develop a start to finish treatment for the foot that can positively affect the rest of the body based on the most recent science and understanding of the human body.
Learning Objectives*
- Students will learn detailed anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of the foot and ankle complex with myofascial meridians included in our understanding of anatomy.
- Students will learn how to evaluate the foot and ankle from a postural perspective.
- Students will learn how compensation at the foot can lead to aches, pains, and dysfunction further up the kinetic chain in predictable patterns.
- Students will learn the Reflexology “road map” of the foot as it relates to the rest of the bodies systems.
- Students will learn the history and theory behind reflexology, how it works, why it works, and its origins.
- Students will learn reflexology from an acupuncture meridian point of view, western medicine point of view, and traditional point of view.
- Students will learn how to treat a few common medical conditions with a reflexology approach.
- Students will learn an integrated approach to treatment of the foot from beginning to end to affect distant regions and systems of the body.
