Shiatsu is the ancient healing art of encouraging chi (life force) to flow evenly throughout the body. Using points of pressure and gentle stretching we can open existing channels, called meridians, which may have become restricted due to injury, life changing events or simply the pace of busy lives. Restoring our body’s access to this innate source of vital energy allows us to move through our day with greater ease. Body and mind struggle less, and we can feel more relaxed and resourceful.
In this workshop we will cover:
- Brief history and philosophy of shiatsu
- Locations of meridians
- Maintaining beneficial body mechanics
- Meridian stretches for self care
- Basic treatment session both prone and supine
We will be working in a traditional style using mats (provided) on a carpeted floor. Please bring a sheet to use with the class and also any pillows or blankets that might be helpful for your own comfort. Wear loose, comfortable layers (no jeans or shorts) for greatest freedom of movement. Bringing a lunch is welcomed.
